Bob Hilke - Nutritional Sciences

A Message from Bob Hilke

Nutritional Sciences Degree, Iowa State University
Executive Consultant in Nutrition, Wellness, and Healthcare
Former Director at the nation’s largest Health & Wellness company

America’s health has been on the wrong trajectory for decades with healthcare being primarily a sick-care model. The science of medicine is prescription based, with a primary focus of resolving the symptoms of poor health. The science of nutrition is focused primarily on maintaining good health and with an optional objective of striving for better or optimal health — thus avoiding the need for drug therapy as much as reasonably possible.

Our motto: Nutrition First – Medicine Second.

Both sciences, Nutrition and Medicine, are important.

There should be more collaboration between the two sciences.

Individuals should decide how to approach their own healthcare. They can place emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle to achieve better lasting health outcomes.

Why not try nutrition and lifestyle changes first where possible or in collaboration with medicine, rather than simply relying on medicine to solve health problems? With a medicine-first approach, there may be long-term consequences for a sick-care drug-based solution focused on solving symptoms. You can always fall back on medicine if necessary.

The mission of VeryHealthyBody.com is to provide science-based nutrition and wellness information to help our visitors learn practical health strategies that are primarily nutrition and lifestyle focused. With nutrition and lifestyle, your approach can include improving your baseline health and striving for optimal health. Not just treating sickness.

In order to provide helpful resources, I curate research and presentations from expert medical doctors, nutritionists, scientists, researchers, professors, and other healthcare professionals. I’ll also contribute some of my own experiences and insights from time to time as my academic training is Nutritional Sciences and I have a 30+ year career at the nation’s largest Health & Wellness company. So I have much to contribute to the conversation.

As every person is individual, nutrition and other health approaches that work well for one person may not achieve the same outcomes for another person. Your “today’s” health is a result of your lifelong lifestyle and choices. While some nutritional approaches render seemingly immediate results, other health objectives may take time to overcome a health status that developed over many years. Focus, diligence, persistence, and patience are good partners on your new journey to a better you.

Nutrition works. After all, you are what you eat!
